Facts
Oberargletcher has a length of 4 km (as of 2005 ) and an area of 5.82 km² (as of 1973 )
The first studies of this and neighboring glaciers were carried out by Franz Hugi In 1827 and Louis Agassis in 1840. [1] At that moment, the Oberargletcher moved to Unterragletcher , feeding him. As of the mid-2010s, the gap between them is several kilometers; in the gorge between the glaciers, the dam of the Oberarze reservoir was built.
In December 2001, Oberargletcher, along with the Great Aletsch Glacier , was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Jungfrau - Aletsch - Bichhorn region .
