Does not take advantage of the location of the Armenians of Constantinople and the patriarch of Nerses. In relations with us always differs in the spirit of goodwill. Lacking more scholarship, Arethune was always a skillful figure in practical life, keeping to the soil real and guided not by abstract theories, but by common sense; of all the candidates, he almost represents the highest guarantees for us if elected to the Catholicos ” [3] .
At the General National Meeting held on January 25, 1885, he was elected by the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople with 65 votes out of 87 deputies - he took up his duties on April 17 [2] .
