Biathlon at the 1960 Winter Olympics

In the biathlon program of the VIII Winter Olympic Games of the year, 1 set of awards was played. Competitions were held on February 21, 1960. Participants ran an individual race with a separate start with an interval of one minute. The race was attended by 30 athletes from 9 countries. Four firing lines had targets at different distances and were unevenly spaced:

  • 6.5 km - distance to the target 200 meters
  • 9.5 km - distance to the target 250 meters
  • 12.5 km - distance to the target 150 meters
  • 15 km - the distance to the target is 100 meters.

Spectators in the stadium could not watch the shooting. During the race, the results of each biathlete at the firing lines were reported to the stadium by telephone. At the Olympics of 1960 and 1964, for each miss, athletes were charged 2 minutes of a penalty.
