Reviews
Sociologist, anthropologist, philosopher, sexologist I. S. Cohn noted the following about the book “A Brief History of Priests”:
The discussion of the nature of corporal punishment and related fantasies involved historians, anthropologists, and semiotics . Following the history of flogging and rodging , as well as the phallus and penis , a history of priests appears, like the witty book of Jean-Luc Ennig.
The deputy editor-in-chief of the Inostranka Publishing House, I. I. Kuznetsova , noted the same book: [2]
In the series “Things in Yourself” - “A Brief History of the Priests” by Jean-Luc Ennig, written in the spirit, so to speak, of “ Voltairean cultural studies ”.
The writer, literary critic and literary critic M. A. Kucherskaya wrote: [3]
“The priest was formed in ancient times,” the author tells us from the very first line, unaware that a Soviet joke hails in which the guide opened with the phrase “The past of the N-th district of the N-th region goes back to the depths of the Ice Age”. A similar thoughtfulness permeates the Brief History of the Priests through and through, like the stake discussed here in a separate chapter. The French writer Jean-Luc Ennig stylizes a book for scientific research - with links, historical excursions, with detail; as if seriously solves the question, "are there buttocks in animals", considers the role of symmetry in the human body and the origin of the word "flogging". However, the book is unlikely to enter the scientific annals , despite the considerable number of fans of anal subjects among the reading public. And for a really funny joke it turns out too cumbersome. The author, it seems, sincerely considers himself a follower of Rabelais and even devotes several pages to him - only the writer of “ Gargantua ” was overwhelmed by the naive delight that you can finally discuss forbidden topics so refinedly, and the researcher of the “history of the priests” with pedantic tediousness only imitates stormy fun . Thank you, all this does not last too long - we are presented with only a “short” version of the most boring (performed by Ennig) story of Madame Sit .
