Galloway (breed of cows)

The Galloway breed is a meat cattle breed . One of the oldest breeds, bred in the 17th century in Galloway, in Scotland. Horned cattle, mainly of black color, there is a recessive gene of red color; according to CNE, a dark brown and grayish-yellow color occurs. The weight of bulls is on average 750-800 kg, cows 480-525 kg. Slaughter yield 65-70%. Milk productivity is about 1500 kg per year.

Distribution

At the end of the XIX century, the breed appeared in the USA and Canada. According to TSB, since 1963, small quantities were imported into the USSR for breeding work. According to KNE, it was imported to Kazakhstan in 1962. Work on the selection of the Galloway breed was carried out at the Kazakhstan Scientific Research Institute of Livestock.
