Karjalainen ( Fin. Karjalainen , Karel) is the eleventh largest newspaper in circulation in Finland and the main regional newspaper in the province of North Karelia in Eastern Finland. The editors are located in Joensuu . The number of readers of the printed and electronic version reaches 140 thousand. The newspaper was founded in 1874 under the name "Karelka" ( Fin. Karjalatar ), it is the third oldest newspaper in Finland in Finnish. Karjalainen is published by the Pohjois-Karjalan Kirjapaino Group , which also publishes other regional newspapers: the free Karjalan Haley ( fin. Karjalan Heili ), Lieksan Lehti ( fin. Lieksan Lehti ), Pogostan Sanomat ( fin. Pogostan Sanomat) ) ( Ilomantsi ) and others [2] . The main shareholder of the publishing house is the Laakkonen family .
