Kaneydian ( English Canadian ) - a city in the United States , located in the northern part of Texas , in the eastern part of the Texas ledge , the administrative center of Hemphill County . According to the 2010 census, the number of inhabitants was 2649 people, according to the US Census Bureau in 2015, 3013 people lived in the city [2] .

Content
History
Before the founding of the city, Francisco Vazquez de Coronado crossed the area in search of the seven golden cities of Sibola , merchants traveling from Missouri to New Mexico , and troops attracted by the California gold rush. [3] Kaneidian was founded in 1887 by a city planning company on the Kansas Railway. The city was named after the Kaneydian River , on the southern bank of which it is located. In the summer of 1887, a railway was drawn into the city. In the same year, Kaneidian became the administrative center of Hemphill County. In 1888, the first rodeo was held in the city, which later became an annual event called “ Cowboys' Reunion ” [4] .
By 1900, the city charter was adopted and local governments established. The city has become a major shopping center, which housed the office of the railway unit, a fan depot , ginning machines, elevators, banks, schools and a number of other enterprises. In 1903, the district passed a prohibition . Seven newspapers were published in the city, one of which, Record, continues to be published [4] .
In the early 1950s, the railway office was abolished in the city and the depot ceased to function. Nevertheless, the city continued to develop as an agricultural, as well as an oil and gas producing center [4] .
Geography
Kaneydian is located in the northwestern part of the district, its coordinates: [5] . The city is located at the confluence of the Red Deer Creek and the Kaneidian River [4] .
According to the US Census Bureau , the area of the city is about 3.4 square kilometers, fully occupied by land [5] .
Climate
According to the Köppen climate classification , a semi-arid climate of temperate latitudes (BSk) prevails in Kaneidian [6] .

According to the 2010 census, 2,649 people lived in the city, there were 936 households and 680 families. The racial makeup of the city: 85.6% are white , 0.2% are African - Americans , 0.5% are Native Americans, 0.3% are Asians , 0.0% (1 person) are residents of Hawaii or Oceania, 11, 6% are other races, 1.8% are two or more races. The number of Hispanic residents of any race was 33.9% [9] .
Out of 936 households, children under 18 live in 42.4%. 58.8% of households were couples living together (31.6% with children under 18 years of age), in 8.9% of households women lived without husbands, in 5% of households men lived without wives, 27.4% of households were not by families. Only one person lived in 24.6% of households, 10.4% were single elderly people (over 65). The average household size was 2.79 people. The average family size is 3.33 people [9] .
The population of the city by age range was as follows: 33.7% are residents under 20 years old, 27.1% are between the ages of 20 and 39, 27.9% are between 40 and 64, 11.3% are 65 and older . The average age is 32.6 years [9] .
According to a five-year survey from 2011 to 2015, the average household income in Kaneydian is $ 55,761 per year, and the average household income is $ 59,219. The per capita income for the city is $ 25,712. About 12.5% of families and 16% of the population are below the poverty line. Including 9.7% under the age of 18 years and 5.4% at the age of 65 and over [10] .
Local government
City management is carried out by the elected mayor, deputy mayor and the city council, consisting of four people [11] .
Infrastructure and transport
U.S. Highways 60 and 83 pass through Kaneidian.
Hemphill County Airport is located in the city. The airport has two runways 1525 and 915 meters long [12] . The closest commercial passenger airport is Liberal Mid-America Regional Airport in , Kansas . The airport is located about 155 kilometers north of Kaneydiana.
Education
The city is served by the Canadeian Independent School District.
Economics
According to the city’s financial report for the 2015 reporting year, Kaneydian owned assets in the amount of $ 16.70 million, the city's debt amounted to $ 5.98 million. In 2015, the city’s revenues amounted to $ 4.02 million, and expenses were $ 4.01 million [13] .
Recreation and Entertainment
Every year, the city hosts a rodeo, summer music festival and autumn festival [4] .
The Kaleidian is home to the River Valley Museum of Pioneers [4] .
A city in popular culture
Part of the film “ Outcast ” by Tom Hanks was shot in the city [14] .
