According to the initial schedule of the tournament, the final matches were planned to be played in July 1940, however, their holding was impossible due to the worsening political situation amid the events of the Second World War. Hungary's territorial claims against Romania caused a severe diplomatic crisis, which culminated in the occupation of Northern Transylvania by Hungarian forces.
