Biography
He was born on September 17 (29), 1874 in the Kamensky Zavod of the Kamyshlovsky district of the Perm province [1] . In the 1890s he studied in St. Petersburg , was one of the strongest chess players in the capital.
In 1905, he shared third place in a strong first-category tournament. In 1906, he took third place in the tournament of the strongest chess players of St. Petersburg (behind S.Z. Alapin and M.I. Chigorin ) [2] . He shared 6th place at the All-Russian tournament of 1905-06 . He took part in the All-Russian tournaments in 1909 , 1911 and 1913/14 .
According to M.I. Chigorina was one of the most talented Russian chess players of his time [3] . In 1894, Pyotr Yevtifeev pointed out in the Chigorin journal “Chess” the beautiful sacrifice of the queen leading to victory, which Steinitz did not notice in the game with Andersen [1] . In 1905, he took second place (behind MI Chigorin ) in a thematic tournament according to Rice's version in the royal gambit.
The combination style of P. Evtifeev was noted in foreign publications [4] . His game with Izbinsky in the tournament of 1905-06 . was called "one of the most brilliant" [5] .
