The TransPanama Trail ( TransPanama Trail, TransPanama Thru-Hike ) is a 1,127 km (700 mi) walking tourist route in Panama that runs east to west along the country from the Colombian border to the Costa Rica border .

Geography

The route begins in the Darien National Park, on the border with Colombia. Further, the trail passes through the Reserva Hidrológica Filo del Tallo reserve and rises north to the sea through the Chagres reserve.

The Transpanama trail passes through Camino Real to the Caribbean Sea, repeating the historical route of the conquistadors who transported gold to Spanish ships.

The trail then runs along the coastal strip until it reaches Santa Fe National Park. After that, the route deepens into the central part of the country and reaches the highest point on the path - volcano Baru (volcan Baru) with a height of 3475 m, located in the province of Chiriqui. The end point of the Transpanama Trail is the border town of Hurutungo.

The western part of the Transpanama Trail is open to tourists in 2009. A professional guide, Rick Morales, set out on a hike lasting 2 months and 27 days to lay a through route. Rick Morales plans to turn the Transpanama Trail into Panama's national tourist route, the same as the Appalachian Trail and the US Pacific Ridge Route .

Route Features
