Creation History
The boat was designed in the Bureau of Santiers Hero Maritims de la Seine ( CAMS ) based on the passenger type CAMS 53. There was no prototype, the main production CAMS 55.1 was released in 1928. The series was built at CAMS (later SNCAN) in Saint- Petersburg -Deni .
At the beginning of World War II, the CAMS 55.10 remained in service with the combat units of the French fleet; by May 1940 all of them had been withdrawn to the 2nd line. But at the beginning of the war, due to the reserve and training units, squadrons were formed on CAMS 55.1 and CAMS 55.10, carrying out rescue operations until August 1940.
The plane was no longer manufactured in mid-1935. In France, it was withdrawn from service in August 1940, and all vehicles were scrapped. Two aircraft CAMS 55.1 survived on about. Tahiti. The squadron of "Free France" operated them until January 1941 [2] .
Design
Twin-engine wooden (or mixed construction) biplane. The engines are mounted in tandem in a gondola between the upper and lower wings.
Modifications [3]
- CAMS 55.1 - with motors HS 12Lbr. Issued 43 aircraft.
- CAMS 55.2 - with motors GR 9Akx. Made 29 units.
- CAMS 55.10 - aircraft of wooden construction with engines GR 9Kbr. 32 aircraft were produced, 16 of which received all-metal underwing floats. The last 4 cars were made in the "colonial" version with a more powerful radio station.
- CAMS 55.3 , CAMS 55.6 , CAMS 55.11 , CAMS 55.14 - modifications that existed in a single copy. They were distinguished by a metal set and other improvements.
