Biography
Before he came to athletics, he played basketball at his native Morgan City High School. He was recognized as the most valuable player of the defensive plan team, and in the last year of training played the role of team captain. His high speed in the game was noted by many spectators, but Vernon himself was not going to change the sport. Only when it became clear that he could apply for a sports scholarship at the university, Norwood began to seriously train on a treadmill [1] .
After a successful year at South Plains College, he moved to Louisiana State University , where he became one of the strongest 400-meter runners. Four times became the champion of the NCAA , including in 2015 he won the individual championship both indoors and outdoors. In the spring of 2015, he set a high personal record at the competitions in Baton Rouge - 44.44 [2] .
He took third place in the national championship in a circle race, losing only to David Verbourg and Lachon Merritt . Thanks to this success, he went to the 2015 World Cup , where he became a semi-finalist in his personal form and a champion in the 4x400 meters relay. Despite the fact that Vernon helped the team only in the preliminary races, he received gold as a full-fledged member of the team.
In the winter of 2016, he won the US Championship at a distance of 400 meters. He was disqualified from the indoor championship at the indoor championship for running outside the treadmill, but then brought the team first place in the relay. Vernon ran the final stage, and the Americans showed the third time in world history (3.02.45).
