Dmitry Ivanovich Ilovaysky 1st ( 1738 -? [1] ) - Russian military, cavalry general (1799), ataman of the Donskoy Army (1797-1800), participant in the Napoleonic Wars.

Biography

Born in 1738 [1] on the Don in the family of Colonel Ivan Mokeevich Ilovaisky [2] , he came “from the elder children of the Don Cossacks”, the elder brother of the cavalry general Alexei Ilovaisky .

In 1754 he entered the military service as a Cossack, took part in the hostilities of the Seven Years War as part of the hundredth command of the military chieftain Stepan Danilovich Efremov . In 1764 he had the rank of military esaul, in 1768 - military foreman ( lieutenant colonel ). He took part in the Russian-Turkish wars of 1768-1774 and 1787-1791 , distinguished himself during the assault on the Izmail fortress, for which he was awarded a nominal gold medal and 30 gold coins.

Since 1776 - the ataman of the Don Army, since 1794 - major general . After the death of his brother Alexei, in 1797, he took the post of military ataman of the Don Army. In 1798 he received the rank of lieutenant general , in 1799 - the cavalry general.

He had awards of the Russian Empire. The portrait of Dmitry Ilovaysky, painted by the artist Efim Vasilyevich Kopylov , is in the Novocherkassk Museum of the History of the Don Cossacks . [3]

Family

Was married twice:

  • The first marriage in 1763 was on Evdokia Timofeevna Grekova, daughter of the field chieftain Timofei Fedorovich Grekov , from whom he had seven sons ( Pavel , Ivan , Stepan , Grigory , Timofei , Vasily and Peter - all of them served as high-ranking officers as Cossack officers) and two daughters (Natalya and Ekaterina).
  • The second marriage was married to Dina Ivanovna Ivelich.

Interesting Facts

In 1793, the team leader Dmitry Ilovaysky received a certificate of land ownership and an appropriate plan from the hands of Catherine II (60 thousand acres of land). He is considered the founder of the Zuevskaya settlement (now the village of Zuevka, Donetsk region). In 1785, he brought 500 peasant families to this locality from the Saratov province, settled them on the lands near the Makeevka settlement and named the new village by his name - Dmitrievsk (now the city of Makeevka, Donetsk region).
