Biography
Born in 1778 , the son of the punishable chieftain of the Don Cossack Army Dmitry Ivanovich Ilovaysky and his wife Evdokia Timofeevna Grekova.
From 1798 to March 5, 1802 he commanded the Ataman Cossack Regiment , in 1801, under the leadership of Ataman Vasily Petrovich Orlov, he took part in the Orenburg campaign of the Donskoy Army in India and on May 2, 1801 he returned to Cherkassk at the head of the regiment. He took part in the military campaign of 1806-1807 against the French. On June 16, 1810 he headed the Cossack regiment of his name and performed cordon service in the Tarnopol region on the border with Austria-Hungary, in 1811 he was appointed to the corps of Lieutenant General I.N. Essen and served on the borders with Prussia and the Grand Duchy of Warsaw. In March 1812, Stepan Ilovaysky was transferred to the Cossack brigade of his brother, Major General Ivan Dmitrievich Ilovaysky of the 4th 2nd Western Army and in May 1812 became a member of the Cossack corps of the ataman Matvey Platov . June 10, 1812 "due to illness" left the command of the regiment and returned to the Don.
He died on January 30, 1816 [1] in the village of Ekaterinovka , and was buried at Ratninsky cemetery. [2] His portrait, painted by an unknown author, is in the Novocherkassk Museum of the History of the Don Cossacks .
He was awarded the Order of St. George 4th degree, St. Vladimir 3rd degree, the Prussian Order of Pour le MΓ©rite.
Family
He was married to Marfa Matveevna Platova [3] - the daughter of Matvey Ivanovich Platov from his second marriage (to Martha Dmitrievna Martynova). The daughter of Stepan Dmitrievich - Alexander [4] - was married to Dmitry Alekseevich Leonov [5] .
