Biography

Gennady Voropayev was born on May 27, 1931 in Moscow . During World War II he was evacuated to the Orenburg region - there he began to “act”: he performed in military sketches in hospitals . After the end of the war, Voropaev went into amateur activities. In 1950, returning to Moscow, he entered the MS Shchepkin Higher Theater School at the Maly Theater . After graduating from college, in 1955, he was assigned to the Russian Theater in Vilnius , but he did not work there for long - only a year.

In 1957, he arrived in Leningrad and was accepted into the Leningrad Youth Theater by its founder A. A. Bryantsev . There, in two years, he played many roles - the most diverse - and as a result, he was noticed by Nikolai Akimov , who just needed a young hero for the play “One Girl's Story” (after A. Tversky), and from 1959 until the end of his life, Gennady Voropayev artist of the Leningrad Comedy Theater .

Comedy Theater

Akimov

Possessing unsurpassed external data: tall, an article, a slender figure, a smile and the manner of an aristocrat, the face of an Italian seducer, Voropayev risked remaining in the role of a romantic hero forever. Indeed, the 1960s gave a series of beautiful roles of this very plan: both Krechinsky ( A. Sukhovo-Kobylin , “Krechinsky's Wedding” ), and Don Juan ( Byron , Don Juan), and roles in E. Schwartz's plays - Lancelot in “Dragon” and the Scientist in the second edition of “The Shadow” ... But Voropayev wanted more: he saw himself in characteristic roles. “You will play both this and that,” said Akimov . And fulfilled the promise. Jester in "The Twelfth Night", Rodolfo in the "Cylinder" - his best characteristic roles will remain in the memory of generations of viewers of St. Petersburg.

After Akimov

In the early 1970s, Voropayev was lucky again. Peter Fomenko, appointed to the post of artistic director, proposed a role in the play “This Sweet Old House”. The role of Gusyatnikov - the most incredible, touching, played with such purity and sincerity - has become a new discovery! And further, new achievements in the performances of the Comedy Theater of the time: Ostrovsky 's Forest, Shukshin 's Characters.

And in the 1980s and in the 1990s, Voropaev "in business" - "Everything about Eve", "Philoumen Marturano", "Mad Money", "Passion by Moliere" - in each role is something new, but invariably - charm, truthfulness, sense of dignity. In the third edition of "Shadows" (1984), Voropayev, this famous Scientist from Akimov's play, played the role of the Doctor: timid from his own weak character.

Recent years

In recent years, Gennady Ivanovich also actively continued his creative activity. Small, but bright roles in the theater of Comedy. Nevertheless, the last premiere took place in the spring of 2001 at the Mansion Theater: Gennady Ivanovich performed a big role in Vladimir Mikhelson’s play “Green Cheeks of April”.

The 2001 season of the Comedy Theater wanted to open with the play “Ladies and Hussars” in which Gennady Ivanovich played the role of the Polish retired Grzegorz. But not opened. There was a stroke a week before the performance - Voropayev died on July 30, 2001 .

The actor is buried in the Smolensk cemetery in St. Petersburg.

Movie Relationships

Never Gennady Ivanovich - neither in the theater nor in the cinema - did not fuss, seeking roles and courting directors. But the role happened! The popularity in the whole country brought work in the " Vertical " with Vysotsky . Voropayev played one of the central roles - the mountaineer-traitor, who hid a radiogram from his friends, because of which the whole expedition was threatened with death.

Filmed in the movie infrequently. But despite the heavy workload in the theater, the actor was able to create vivid images in the films: “Olesya” with Chursina , “ Experiment of Dr. Abst ”, “Minority Opinion”.

One of the latest film works is the role of Dolly's father in the American version of Anna Karenina .
