Nu tändas tusen juleljus ( Russian . Thousands of Christmas lights come on here ) is a Christmas song, written in 1898 by the Swedish composer . The song was especially popular in the 20th century, it was sung in churches , in houses, and in schools .
Such singers and groups like Carola (in 1983) [1] , Wizex (in 1993) [2] and Lil Lindfors (in 1991) [3] made covers of this song. The Swedish punk band Ebba Grön , who recorded the song in 1980, changed the text and called the song “Nu släckas Tusen människoliv” (“Here are thousands of human lives go”) [4] , this version of the song sings about homeless life.

It is believed that the song In the forest was born a Christmas tree was written on the basis of this song in 1905 by amateur composer Leonid Karlovich Beckman [5] . The melody of the song is only slightly different from the Swedish version.
