Production

Most of the film was shot in the 86th (former 17th) Brest border detachment of the Western border district of the KGB of the USSR in the summer of 1985. The old complex of the 14th border post of the 86th POGO built in the 1950s was used as nature. By that time, a new outpost was built, the command of the border district allowed to give the old outpost “to the tear” of the film crew. For the shooting, both for extras and for the equipment of the shooting area, all the reserves of the border detachment were attracted: training outposts, a motorized maneuver group, an engineer-sapper company, a communications company and a mortar battery. River scenes were filmed on the Bug Canal outside the border zone.

Igor Vasilyuk and Pasha Radchuk, who played the sons of the political instructor Belov, were the children of officers of the 86th border detachment.
