Biography and Creativity
Lev Leonidov lived and worked in Moscow. Before the revolution, the main topics of his work were theatrical life and people of art [3] [4] . In the 1900-1910s, he made group photographs of the Maly Theater troupe, photo portraits of actors, scenes from the performances were captured. The shooting was carried out by Leonidov in a photo studio, in buildings where visiting tours were held [5] .
After the publication of a series of photographs “F. I. Chaliapin in the family circle ”in the magazine“ Dawn ”in 1916 Leonidov was invited to the magazine“ Spark ” [3] [4] . His last apolitical photo story was the fire of the Nezlobin Theater on January 14, 1917. One of the first Leonidov photographs of the post-revolutionary days is the cell of the Taganskaya prison , where in 1906 there was the chairman of the State Duma S. A. Muromtsev [4] [3] .
In 1917, Leonidov’s photographs were published in magazines that captured a mass strike in Moscow on August 12 in response to a state meeting convened by the Provisional Government . He was captured by P. A. Kropotkin , P. N. Milyukov , General M. V. Alekseev , E. K. Breshko-Breshkovskaya , N. V. Tchaikovsky . In the same year, the photographer went to work at the newly-created agency Centripchat , located on Tverskaya Street , 38. He organized a photo department at the agency, set up campaign posters and postcards [4] [6] .
The October Revolution and the Civil War were filmed by many, but only a few names remained - Peter Otsup , Victor Bulla , Jacob Steinberg , Pavel Zhukov , Alexey Savelyev , Peter Novitsky , Lev Leonidov, Grigory Goldstein , Alexander Dorn . All of them are representatives of traditional recording photographs, for which documentary and impartiality is paramount.

Kiprensky , etc.) [9] [10] .
Leonidov repeatedly captured the image of V. I. Lenin , his memories of how these shootings were made, were published in the magazine " Soviet Photo " in 1926 [11] [12] . The first photograph of Lenin was taken by Leonidov on November 7, 1918, near the wall of the Senate Tower of the Kremlin, at the opening of a memorial plaque in honor of the dead fighters of the revolution. The Lev Leonidov photo library was used for historical information - director Boris Barnet and artist Alexander Rodchenko turned to his photo documents when preparing the film “ Moscow in October ” (1927). Thanks to the shots captured by the photographer, the creators of the picture were able to recreate the historical appearance of a number of characters, as well as to find participants in the Moscow uprising for consultations [16] . The artist’s memories and photographs are used by historians to clarify the dating of historical events [14] [20] .
