Biography

Born in St. Helens in 1913 in the family of Herbert and Sarah Redwood [1] . In May 1933, he signed a contract with the Manchester United club [2] [3] . September 21, 1935 made his debut in the main team of United in the match against Tottenham Hotspur [4] . It was his only match in the 1935/36 season . At the beginning of the 1936/37 season, due to an injury to Jack Griffiths, he made his way to the main team and spent 21 matches in the championship. In the 1937/38 and 1938/39 seasons he was Manchester United's main right-back. In total, he spent four seasons in the club, having played 93 matches during this time and scoring 4 goals [3] .

After the declaration of war on Germany by Great Britain and the cessation of official football tournaments in England in September 1939, Hubert Redwood was drafted into the army. He served in the regiment of South Lancashire ( South Lancashire Regiment ). Received the rank of Corporal. He fell ill with tuberculosis during the service, after which he was demobilized and returned to his hometown of St. Helens, where he died on October 28, 1943 at the age of 30. He was buried in the St. Helens cemetery. [1]
