History
Until 2015, the canton included part of the Herouville-Saint-Clair commune and it had a double name: the canton of Herouville-Saint-Clair (Can-5). As a result of the 2015 reform [1], the composition of the canton has completely changed.

The canton includes the communes (population according to the National Institute of Statistics for 2014):
- Caen (southern quarters) (16,749 people)
- Louvigny (2,814 people)
- Saint-Andre-sur-Orne (1 793 people)
- Fleury-sur-Orne (4,660 people)
- Eaterville (1,552 people)
Policy
In the 2017 presidential election, the canton residents cast 28.7% of the votes in the 1st round to Emmanuel Macron against 23.1% from Jean-Luc Melanson , 18.2% from Francois Fillon and 12.8% from Marine Le Pen ; in the 2nd round, Macron won the canton, receiving 79.0% of the vote. (2012 1st round: Francois Hollande - 35.0%, Nicolas Sarkozy - 23.8%, Marine Le Pen - 6.4%; 2nd round: Hollande - 61.4%).
Since 2015, the canton has been represented on the Council of the Department of Calvados by the member of the Council of the city of Can, Eric Vève (Éric Vève) and the member of the Council of the city of Fleury-sur-Orne, Jézabel Sueur (both Socialist Party ).
