Filippo Villani ( Italian Filippo Villani , c. 1325, Florence - c. 1405, ibid.) - Italian historian and writer. Nephew of Giovanni Villani .

Around 1360 he graduated as a lawyer at the University of Florence . In 1376-81 he worked as Chancellor ( Italian: cancelliere del comune ) of Perugia . Matteo Villani continued his father's work on the Florentine New Chronicle, adding to chapters 61-102 in Book 11. The Book of the Origin of Florence and its Famous Citizens ( Latin: Liber de origine civitatis Florentiae et eiusdem famosis civibus ) is of historical value, in the second volume of which the author paid special attention to writers, poets, scientists, artists and musicians of the XIV century (reached 1396 ), including Giotto and Francesco Landini . Since 1391 in Florence, Villani has been engaged in lecturing and commenting on Dante 's Divine Comedy. He was close to Coluccio Salutari and Franco Sacchetti .
