History
The history of the construction of the Baykovsky bridge begins in 1840, when the mayor of the city, Andrei Romanovich Yashchenko , proposed creating a bridge that would lead through the General beam. Such a decision was necessary, because under the conditions of bad weather, or the crowded September [1] Christmas and Virgin Mary Fair [2] , moving to the other side of the tract was problematic. it was also difficult to transport goods and cargo to the other side of the General beam [3] .
The City Council also recognized that for crossing over the beam, stone bridges must be replaced instead of existing wooden bridges, since the former are constantly in need of repair [4] . In 1857, all expenses were recorded and an estimate was made by architect Lykov - for the construction of the bridge, an amount of 4955 rubles 26 kopecks was needed. When Andrei Matveevich Baykov became the mayor, he again began to work on the construction of the bridge, but the materials became more expensive. Now the city authorities were thinking whether it was appropriate to build a stone bridge at all, perhaps it is better to build an arch. But still the bridge was built. Its solemn coverage took place on August 30, 1864. On the bridge railing there were signs: “Baykovsky Bridge” and “Opened on August 30, 1864”. It was possible to drive through the Baykovsky bridge. This significant event happened simultaneously with another - after 20 days the foundation of the Peter and Paul Almshouse took place [1] . This year the bridge was the only closed part of the beam. In 1867 it was necessary to pave the bottom of the pipe of the Baykovsky bridge [4] . As of March 2013, the memorial plaques on the bridge and the pipe that were installed were not preserved [5] . As the Baykovsky bridge itself has not survived to this day.
Description
The width of the bridge was 20 fathoms ; the span of the bridge was 2 fathoms. The arch was built using bricks, walls - their arshin stone [4] .
