Biography
Born September 3, 1939 in Irkutsk.
In 1962, he graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Department of Chita State University .
In 1967 - defended his thesis, theme: "Biogeochemical province of Tuva."
In 1987 - defended his doctoral dissertation, topic: "Biological transformation of organochlorine and mercury-containing pesticides."
Since 1989 - Head of the Laboratory of Environmental Biogeochemistry at the V.I.Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences .
Scientific and social activities
Leading scientist in the field of biogeochemistry of continents and geochemical ecology.
In the beginning of the 70s, for the first time revealed the connection of selenium deficiency in plants and animals with the manifestation of white muscle disease in animals, which served as the basis for the broad prevention of this disease.
Based on the biogeochemical parameters of local and regional macro- and microelements cycles, he proposed biogeochemical criteria for assessing ecological disaster and crisis zones within the framework of the Ecological Safety of Russia program, a new concept for ecological assessment of terrestrial ecosystems, and classification of biogeochemical provinces.
He is the author of about 300 works, patents, including a number of monographs, including: “Gas chromatographic methods for determining pesticides in biological objects” (1972), “Biological significance of selenium” (1974, together with V.V. Kovalsky), “Geochemical ecology of animals "(2008, together with S. F. Tyutikov) and others.
He prepared and taught the course “Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Technologies” at the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Moscow Technological Institute of Food Industry .
I taught a special course "Environmental Fundamentals of Biogeochemistry" for students and magistrates of the Geological Faculty of Moscow State University .
Organizer of the international school “Geochemical ecology and biogeochemical study of biosphere taxa” and annual scientific readings in memory of his teacher by the outstanding scientist Viktor Vladislavovich Kovalsky .
He participated in the preparation of the WHO document “Hygienic criteria for the preservation of the environment. No. 58. Selenium. "
Member of the Academic Council of GEOCH RAS and two dissertation councils.
On his initiative, the international scientific journal “Problems of Biogeochemistry and Geochemical Ecology” has been published at this institute since 2006.
Member of the editorial board of the journal Ecologica (Serbia) and Geochemistry (Russia).
