Biography
He graduated from the Physics Department of Lausanne University , after which he returned to Turkey. He taught at several gymnasiums. During this period, met with the thinker, ideologist of pan-Turkism Zia Gökalp . Under his influence, began to conduct research on the history of Turkey. In 1914, he taught at the Faculty of Literature at Imperial University as a professor of Turkish history and Islamic peoples. He later became dean of the faculty of theology.
From 1914 to 1918 he was a deputy of the Ottoman parliament from Bilecik . For some time he was a member and vice president of the city council in Istanbul. During the War of Independence of Turkey was a member of the "Society for the Protection of the Rights of Anatolia and Thrace."
He was elected deputy II., III., IV., V., VI. and VII. and IX compositions of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
In the years 1949-1950. - Prime Minister of Turkey. He was also the leader of the Republican People's Party in Istanbul. In 1961 he was elected senator.
From 1941 until his death he was president of the Turkish Historical Organization .
