Biography
She came to the COVA athletics club in her native Nyon at the age of 10, following the example of her older sister Ellen . Under the leadership of the first coach Jacques Binder, she established herself as a good all-around [1] . It was in the heptathlon that Lea made her debut at the Youth World Championships in 2007 and took 13th place.
After moving to a gymnasium, Lausanne began training under the leadership of Laurent Mevli. She managed to set a country record in the heptathlon in the age category up to 20 years, and also won the bronze medal of the European Junior Championship . She set a personal record in 2011 at competitions in the Austrian Götzis, where she scored 5651 points.
Hoping to go to the Olympic Games in London , she tried several times to fulfill the necessary standard, but to no avail. Since the best results in all-around she had been running 200 meters, Lea decided to try to change her specialization [2] . The experiment was successful: the semifinals of the European Championship and getting to the Olympic Games. In the capital of Great Britain, Sprunger limited herself to participating in preliminary runs of 200 meters and a relay race of 4 × 100 meters.
In 2014, as part of the Swiss national team, she set the country's records in relay races 4 × 200 meters (1.31.75 at the relay relay world championships ) and 4 × 100 meters (42.94 at the stage of the Diamond League in Lausanne ).
Took 9th place in the semifinal of the European Championship 2014 at a distance of 200 meters.
In 2015, she decided to change the distance again, going over 400 meters with barriers, because she considered that a high growth (183 cm) prevents her from fully realizing herself at such a short distance as 200 meters. At the World Cup, she managed to show a high result - 55.83, and reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
In the first part of the summer season of 2016, she marked the country's record in 200-meter running (22.38) [3] and the best result in 400-meter hurdles (54.92). At the European Championships for the first time in her career she became a bronze medalist. However, the performance at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro was unsuccessful: the result was 1.6 seconds worse than a personal record and did not allow her to break into the semifinals [4] .
In the winter season of 2017, she established new personal achievements in running 200 and 400 meters indoors: 23.06 and 51.46, respectively [5] .
Leia's older sister, Ellen Sprunger, also participated in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games (in the heptathlon and relay race 4 × 100 meters) [6] .
