The Abbey of Clarefontaine ( Fr. Abbaye de Clairefontaine , the official name is "Abbaye Notre-Dame de Clairefontaine" ), also known as the Abbey of Cordemois, is a Trappist abbey located 3 km from Bouillon in the Cordemois area, on the banks of the Semois River in southern Belgium . the province of Luxembourg , about 70 km southeast of Charleroi , on the border with France . Content
History
The abbey was founded in 1815 in Mondee. Subsequently, the community moved to La Cour-Petral (La Cour-Pétral) in 1845, and subsequently to Bouillon in 1935. Abbey status was obtained on July 19, 1935.
Today, the abbey is a functioning Catholic convent, numbering about 25 nuns, part of the Trappist Order, a member of the International Trappist Association . In the monastery pension 25 rooms that are open to visitors all year round, except for January. In the monastery there is a bakery where bread and cookies are baked, sold in the monastery's shop. There are also workshops on ceramics, painting on silk and other creative crafts, a farm in which donkeys, horses, sheep and goats are bred.
