History

Football in Vietnam appeared at the beginning of the 20th century, from the French colonists on the south coast and spread further north. However, during the war, the development of this sport has stopped. Because of the division of Vietnam into North and South, the championships in them were held separately until 1975. In 1989, the Vietnamese Football Association was renamed the Football Federation.

In 1960, the Football Association was founded in North Vietnam. Its first president was the former football player and the head of the railway Ha Zyang An. In 1989, thanks to the Doi Moi reforms, Vietnamese sports returned to international competitions. In August 1989, a football federation was formed in Hanoi. Chin Ngoc Chi ( Vietnamese Trhnh Ngữc Chữ ), who served as Minister of Sport, became the first president of the federation. The current president is Le Hung Dung ( Vietnamese. Lê Hùng Dũng ).
