History

For the first time in the village of Grushevskaya, the church in the name of St. Barbara was built in 1781. This church was wooden; a bell tower adjoined its building. In 1830, it was updated and transferred to a stone foundation. The second major repair was carried out almost 30 years after that, in 1859. Nevertheless, on August 1, 1876, the renewed church burns down for unknown reasons [1] [2] .

In the following year, 1877, on the site of the burned church, local residents build a house of worship, and also turn to the Don Metropolitan with a request to build a stone church [1] [2] .

When exactly the construction of the stone church was started is unknown. It is assumed that the construction work took 5-6 years and was completed in 1884: on October 21, the temple was consecrated by the Dean Anthony Manokhin [1] [2] .

In the first years after the establishment of Soviet power, the villagers tried to protect the church, and services continued to be held in it. Nevertheless, in the 1930s, the authorities still managed to close the temple, but not for long: already in 1943, during the German occupation, it was reopened. At the same time, the altar of the temple was damaged by fragments of an aerial bomb. In 1975, the stanitsy managed to bring the appearance of the church in its original form [1] [2] .

In the 1960s, a cross was torn off by visitors from the dome, but local residents drove out the intruders [1] [2] .

In the 1980s, the church was renovated [1] [2] .

At present, the parish has a Sunday school and a church library. Interaction with educational institutions, the administration of the Grushevsky settlement was established [1] .

External and internal view

The temple building has a cruciform shape. It has two chapels - in the name of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara and in the name of St. George the Victorious . Along the perimeter of the facade, the walls are decorated with decorative cornices. The central dome is tetrahedral, with beveled ribs and has four windows on each side. The bell tower is square, topped with a drum and an onion above it [3] .

Inside there are many icons, both recently painted and restored [1] [3] .
