Biography
Born on August 3, 1923 in the city of Katav-Ivanovsk, Chelyabinsk province . His father served in the Red Army , was an adjutant to the head of the 28th Infantry Division, V. M. Azin , after whose death, in 1920, took his last name. In 1937 he was arrested, in 1938 - shot, rehabilitated in 1958. Mother - Maria Alexandrovna, became a scientist, doctor of medical sciences.
In 1931, he moved with his parents to the city of Sverdlovsk . There in 1941 he graduated from high school and was drafted into the Red Army. He studied at the Kiev Military Medical School, evacuated inland, but in March 1942 he was demobilized for health reasons. He returned to Sverdlovsk and in 1942-1943 he worked as a turner at one of the military factories, at the same time he studied at the correspondence department of the Sverdlovsk Agricultural Institute (now the Ural State Agrarian University ), in 1944 he transferred to his full-time department. After graduating from a university in 1946 and receiving a specialty as an agronomist, a field worker was assigned to work at the Sverdlovsk field station by distribution, and the next year he was transferred to the Institute of Biology of the Ural Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, where he studied at graduate school. In 1953 he defended his thesis at the Moscow Technological Institute of Food Industry on the topic “Storage of seed grain and improving its quality in the Sverdlovsk region”.
In 1954–1955, Leonid Aleksandrovich worked as an agronomist at the Leninsky Testament collective farm in the Aramil district [1] . In December 1955, he returned to the Sverdlovsk field crop station, becoming deputy director for science. When in April 1956 the station became part of the organized Ural Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture, Azin worked in it as a senior researcher, head of the laboratory, scientific secretary of the institute. In 1963 he transferred to teaching at the Ural State University , where in 1965 he became an assistant professor. Since 1967, he worked at the Sverdlovsk Institute of National Economy (now the Ural State University of Economics ), organized and headed the department of food commodity research, which he headed for almost 30 years - until the end of his life.
Having completed and defended his doctoral work in 1968 on the topic "Improving the quality of seed grain in the Middle Urals", in 1969 he received a doctorate in agricultural sciences. At the institute he directed postgraduate studies, prepared a number of candidates and doctors of sciences; published over 200 scientific papers. At the same time, L. A. Azin, on a voluntary basis, was a senior research fellow at the Ural Agricultural Research Institute.
He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor (1976) and medals, including “For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945”, as well as a silver medal of the VDNKh USSR (1965). He had a badge "For excellent success in work in the field of higher education" [1] .
He died on October 26, 1996 in Yekaterinburg, was buried at the Shirokorechensky cemetery. His son, Alexander, is a medical scientist, doctor of medical sciences [2] .
