Biography
Marcel Schatz, 29, an amateur physicist and mountaineer who at the time was working in the ready-made dress shop owned by his father, was invited along with his regular climbing partner Jean Cusy to take part in the Second French Himalayan Expedition led by Maurice Erzog , before which the task was set for the first time in history to conquer the eight-thousanders.
Less than a year after returning from the expedition, Schatz left mountaineering and devoted himself entirely to physics. He participated in the creation of the first French atomic bomb.
