Biography

Born in the family of Colonel George Erdin. He chose a military career, in 1944, becoming the second lieutenant in the Smolanda artillery regiment. In 1948, he represented Sweden at the Summer Olympics in London, where he won a bronze medal in modern pentathlon. At the first world championship in modern pentathlon in Stockholm (1949) he won a gold medal in team competition.

In 1951 he graduated from the Higher Courses of the Military Engineering Academy. From 1956 he served in the General Staff building, and since 1962, with the rank of major, in the Budyon artillery regiment.

In 1965, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, he again returned to service in the corps of the General Staff, in 1967 - in the Svealand Artillery Regiment. In 1969 he was awarded the rank of colonel and he was appointed head of the Royal Military Academy, in 1973 he became commander of the Svealand Artillery Regiment. In 1976 he was promoted to colonel of the 1st rank from 1976 to 1983. He was an inspector of artillery.

In 1965-1969 was adjutant to His Majesty the king, in 1969 he was appointed chief adjutant. From 1972 to 1984, he was the chairman of the Federation of Swedish Military Modern Sport Pentathlon, at the same time from 1978 to 1983, he was the chairman of its executive committee, and from 1983 to 1996, he was the Secretary General. He was also a member of the Executive Committee of the International Military Sports Council (1980-1981), a member of the Executive Committee of the Olympic Committee of Sweden (1984-1996). In 1989-2000 - Chairman of the Swedish Olympic Academy.

In 1989, he was elected president of the nationwide organization Vanner Riksidrottens (Friends of National Sports) and held this post for 14 years, until 2001, becoming honorary chairman. He was also the founder of the scholarship of the Youth Foundation JΓΆst Erdin to support talented youth in various sports.
