Museum History
The decision to create a museum on a voluntary basis was made in 1968. For almost four years, the collection of exhibits and the design of museum expositions continued. A great contribution to its creation was made by the original sculptor I.T. Gilko, who donated to the museum his sculptures made of wood. Many paintings were donated to the museum by artists B. V. Sukhorukov (“The Old Mine”), N. D. Mayakov (“Thirst”, “After the Duel”), A. A. Ramonov (“Scythians”), and the original artist A. V Zaitsev. On February 23, 1972, the museum was officially opened and received its first visitors. The first director of the museum was the honorary citizen of Novoshakhtinsk, a veteran of World War II and labor Alexander Iosifovich Pushkarenko.
Currently, the museum has 2209 storage units. All museum exhibits are located in three rooms (“Labor Glory”, “Military Glory” and the exhibition) and seven departments (“Nature of our land”, “Archeology”, “Geology”, “Genesis (late XIX - early XX centuries)”, “Art”, “Numismatics”) [1] [2] [3] .
In January 2013, the museum received a security obligation, under the terms of which, until 2017, measures should be taken to reconstruct the dugout of the headquarters of the South-Western Front [4] .
