Bertalan Söch ( Hungarian Szőcs Bertalan ; July 18, 1934 , Budapest - May 22, 2016 [1] ) - Hungarian fencer -caprist, played for the national team of Hungary throughout the 1950s. Silver and bronze medalist of world championships, winner of the World University Games in Paris, multiple prize winner of tournaments of national importance. Also known as a fencing coach.

Biography

Born in Budapest . He grew up in a sports family, his uncle Tibor Bertsey - a three-time Olympic champion in fencing and a multiple world champion. He began to actively engage in fencing at the age of thirteen, first being trained in the sports club "MTK Chepel", later he moved to the capital "Budapest Honved".

First declared himself in the 1953 season, winning a bronze medal in the team competition of the capyrist of the Hungarian national championship. A year later, he won the silver medal at the World Junior Championships and, thanks to a series of successful performances, won the right to defend the honor of the country at the adult world championship in Luxembourg , from which he later brought the bronze medal award won in the team discipline of the rapiristov.

Being among the leaders of the fencing team of Hungary, in 1955, Söcs successfully passed the selection to the World Championship in Rome , where he won the silver medal in the team championship of the rapirists (the Hungarians lost in the Italian national team final).

As a student, in 1957 he went to represent the country at the World University Games in Paris and eventually won the team event rapiers. Two years later, he performed at the Summer Universiade in Turin , where he won a silver medal in the same discipline. The last time showed a significant result in the season of 1960, when in the team championship the rapier won a silver award at the Hungarian Championship. Soon after these competitions, he decided to end his career as an athlete, giving way to a team of young Hungarian fencers.

At the end of his sports career, he took up coaching activities, trained novice fencers in the sports clubs "Verosh Meteor" (1961-1970), "Ediethertesh" (1971-1974), MTK-VM. For some time he held the position of coach in the US women's fencing team. Over the years, coaching has produced many outstanding athletes, in particular, his foster child is the famous Hungarian fencer Ildiko Schwarzenberger , champion of the Olympic Games in Montreal (1976), multiple winner and medalist of world championships.

His daughter Zhuzhanna also became quite famous foil player, winning two bronze Olympic medals, world and European championships.
