Biography
Born on May 28, 1925 . In 1942 he entered the University of Cornell , in 1946 he graduated with a bachelor's degree.
In 1950, under the leadership of Professor Harry Morton Fitzpatrick, he defended his Ph.D. thesis, after which he began teaching in the rank of assistant professor. In 1957-1958 he worked at Yokohama National University , where he met his future wife, Kumiko Tachibana.
Since 1961, Korf was a professor of mycology at Cornell University.
In 1971 he was elected president of the Mycological Society of America. In 1991 he became the owner of her outstanding mycologist Award.
In 1974, Korf and the Belgian mycologist Gregoire Annber founded the international mycological journal Mycotaxon .
He died on August 20, 2016 at his home in Ithaca .
