The castle was built in the XIII century , as the family residence of the noble family of Bosset ( FR. Bauçay ), which was subordinate to the king of France.

Initially, the fortress was called - Mot Busse ( French Motte Bauçay (Baussay) ).

After the death of Marie Bosset went to the Shone family ( Fr. Chaunay ). After he moved to Jean Rochechouart ( fr. Jean Rochechouart ), a Parisian politician.

In the Middle Ages, the castle was twice captured by England , and again returned to the borders of France .

History

Until the 20th century.

In 1650, Jean Rochechouart was expelled from Paris on suspicion of participating in the Fronde . He transferred the whole retinue to the castle. [one]

In 1668 - he had to give the castle to creditors. His sister was able to buy the castle, but gave it to Nicolas de Lamoignon. His son William Lamoignon, Count of de Courson, had three daughters, one of whom married Rene de Mapio, French Minister of Justice, who became the owner of the castle in 1766 .

During the French Revolution, it was partially destroyed.

In 1809, the castle was bought by Francois Ancar (Francois Ennecar) and completely restored it: re-dug the canals, set up a vineyard. After handed it to his daughter.

In 1857, Baron Lejeune, Esquire (squire) of Napoleon III , the son of Louise Clari, who was the niece of Queen Desiree of Sweden, became the owner of the castle.

In 1870, he was transferred to Napoleon III , who rebuilt it to remind him of the romantic style of the castle of the Loire Valley .

Fire

In 1932, Baron Lejeune Edgar ( French: Lejeune Edgar ) carried out central heating in the castle. In the same winter (or March 13, information is unknown), a terrible fire occurred in the castle (probably due to an engineering error). Relatively intact were the chapel, dovecote and a small extension, which was used for household purposes. The damage was catastrophic. [one]

The next day, the Figaro newspaper published news about this sad event. The note said that the fire destroyed rare books stored in the castle library, unique paintings, murals, tapestries, antique furniture and many other rarities. [2]

After the fire, interest in the castle of Mot-Chandeigne went out. [2]

XX — XXI Century

In 1963, Jules Kavroix bought the castle. At that time, the castle owned 2,000 hectares of land around.

The 1980s became a new stage in the history of the castle. The land on which it stands, as well as the forests in the neighborhood, became the property of one of the banks. Soon, the bank sold them, and to different persons. [one]

In 1981 - a beautiful architectural masterpiece already in the form of ruins was bought by teacher Mark Demeyer. He dreamed of returning the castle to its former popularity.

Mark has developed his own plan of salvation for this masterpiece of architecture. However, the fact that the land belongs to different people who did not want to take part in the reconstruction turned out to be a serious problem. Marc Demeyer, along with like-minded people, tried to find state support by proposing to recognize the Chateau as a “ Historical Monument ”. After all, then the state should have come forward in its defense. The state made it clear that it does not care about the castle - all the more, it stands on land that is privately owned. [one]

The owner has the last hope, he is seeking recognition of the estate as a “ Monument to History ”, which is obliged to protect the state.

In 2013, he admitted to a local newspaper that he spent two whole years “killing himself,” in the hope of preserving the castle at least in the form that he got. He also admitted that not a single person, and even the state, was interested in restoring this historical monument. [2]

The future of the castle

There was a message that Mot Chancery was bought by a multi-millionaire from Canada, Mark Handerson, whose name is associated with the companies General Motors and Ericsson Canada. It is said that Handerson plans to restore the castle according to documents preserved after the last reconstruction in 1809 . The new owner wants to live in the castle from time to time, but will make it accessible for visiting, and subsequently transfer it to a special trust - as the property of the whole people of France. [one]

On December 5, 2017, it became known that the castle was bought by 6.5 thousand users of the Dartagnans crowdfunding platform for 500,000 euros. The amount was collected in less than five days [3] . Next year they plan to restore the castle with an online broadcast of the process for all shareholders of the crowdfunding company.

Quotes

The words of the lover of Château de la Mothe-Chandeniers - Joëlle Ernoul, a specialist from the Fontevro abbey ( Fr. Fontevraud ), where she conducted extensive research.

"Ca fait mal au cœur de voir ce château en ruines. Oui, je suis inquiète de voir que, depuis des années, rien n'est fait pour sauver ce château qui tombe en ruines depuis pas mal de temps. Et on continue même maintenant encore le saccage avec les bois comme si on voulait effacer le luxe d'un passé ... C'est lamentable ... " [2]

“ It's a pain for my heart to see this castle in ruins. Yes, I am afraid to see that for many years, they did nothing to save this castle, which has been destroyed for many years. And we continue even now to empty the castle, as if we want to erase the luxury of the past ... It's deplorable ... "
