Biography
Vladimir Semensky was born on June 23, 1968 in the village of Imantau ( Kazakhstan ).
1985-1991 he studied at the Krasnoturyinsky Art College .
In 1992 he entered the Academy of Fine Arts Ilya Repin in St. Petersburg. Faced with a dry training program, he soon realizes that the system does not correspond to the already instilled creative freedom and a sense of what it means to be an artist. A year later, leaves school and begins to search for his own creative path outside the walls of the Academy.
In 2000, Semensky became acquainted with the Crimean artist Alexander Votsmush , thanks to which Vladimir visits Cape Fiolent , located 15 km from Sevastopol . Impressed by Fiolent, the artist buys a house here, where he soon moves with his family [1] . Gradually, an independent creative community begins to take shape on Fiolent (later known as the “Village of Fiolent Artists”), bringing together people from various creative professions who organize joint exhibition projects over the next 7 years, shoot the author's game and documentary film project CINEMA COMPANY DAY. In 2007, Vladimir Semensky made a documentary about the life of the Chronicles community [2] .
Since 2008, collaborates with art critic and collector Alexander Balashov.
In 2011, Vladimir Semensky became a member of the Professional Union of Artists of Russia , and in 2012 - the International Art Fund.
Since 2010, collaborates with Krokin Gallery (Moscow).
Since 2011, from 11.12. GALLERY CSI Winzavod ( Moscow ).
Currently lives and works in Moscow and Sevastopol .
Creativity: Formation, Artistic Style, Style
A great influence on the formation of creativity Semensky had a study at the Krasnoturyinsky art school. Despite the fact that the educational institution was on the periphery, an informal creative atmosphere has developed here. The enthusiasm of teachers and students for the traditions of the Russian avant-garde created a creative game system of education that is far from typical Soviet methods of teaching craft skills.
As for his studies at the Ilya Repin Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, in an interview, Semensky recalls him like this: “I studied art in St. Petersburg, in Repinka, in the midst of ordinary academism, a system with its dry style and approach to art. A spontaneous gesture was “outside the law” of the genre ... I didn’t take root there, at some stage I realized that it wasn’t mine. It became a burden, and in the 95th year he left. I was just bored there ... " [3]
In the 90s, Vladimir Semensky made a number of trips to Europe, where he got acquainted with the world of contemporary art and talked with colleagues.
The artist begins to work in the style of expressionism in the Crimea.
In general, the move to Fiolent became a momentous moment in Semensky’s life and work: “here everything is in one place, and there is more time, and it is long here - time. And the buoyancy of being very beneficial for work: from one day to another, from one picture to the next. ” [four]
Another important event for Vladimir Semensky was his acquaintance with art critic and curator Alexander Balashov, the author of the ARTEOLOGY project, which took place in 2007 in the workshop of Georgy Schetinin on Frunzenskaya Embankment. The artist considers this moment to be the beginning in the formation of his own artistic language, which he defines as personal expressionism. Over the past ten years, a number of exhibition projects have been implemented and the book “Vladimir Semensky. Painting".
The art critic Alexander Petrovichev, in an introductory article to the catalog of Vladimir Semensky, described the work of the latter as follows: “The language of Semensky's painting resembles traditional expressionism, but externally, formally. Expressionism Semensky - expressionism of a different time, content and meaningful context. His art has the quality of a mature master, free and predetermined solely by internal motivation, theme and mood. ” [5]
