Norbert Teodorovich Lindtrop (1889–1969) - petroleum geologist, professor, doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences. The developer of the " synclinal theory" and methods for analyzing formation water, a method for measuring the level of fluid in a well by elastic waves, a device that determines the level of a fluid, and also a gas factor.

Biography
By nationality Estonian . Born in Revel (present-day Tallinn ) on April 2, 1889. Father - Theodore Lindtrop; Mother - Eliza Karlovna Stolzenwald (nee), grandfather Karl Stolzenwald, Brother - Harry Teodorovich Lindtrop (son - Lindtrop Norbert Garriyevich), wife - Raisa Trefilievna Schultz.
From 1909 to 1912 he studied in Germany at the Clausthal Mining Academy .
After practicing in Bibi-Heybat he got a job at the first job - Otto Lenz factory. In 1915, as an intelligence manager of the Grozny-Aldynsky Society, N.T. Lindtrop investigated the Novogroznenskoye field, and returning to Baku, on the instructions of the industrialist A. Guliyev, new areas of Binagada and Puta. After the end of the field season, the employer, “considering a geologist for himself a luxury,” dismissed him. The next two years, N.T. Lindtrop worked in contract drilling firms in Surakhani, where he mastered drilling in a percussion-rod method with face washing (the “A. Raki method”) and rotary. From 1917 he worked in the Russian Oil Partnership in the Grozny oil region.
Since 1920 - in the trust "Grozneft", the field geologist of the Novogroznensky field management. From July 1925 to April 1926 he was on a business trip to the USA. After returning - deputy head, from January 1927 - head of the geological bureau "Grozneft".
In 1929 he was repressed , exiled to Kazakhstan, from where he returned in 1940 [1] . In exile, he worked as the chief geologist of the Sredazneft and Kalinineft trusts. Rehabilitated by a special decree in 1955.
In 1937 he attended the International Geological Congress .
From 1945 he headed the department of field geology, the sector of hydrogeology, the department of foreign geology and scientific information at VNIGRI and taught at the Leningrad Mining Institute .
1959-1965 - Chairman of the Commission at the Ministry of Geology and Subsoil Protection of the USSR on the compilation of a consolidated balance of forecast reserves of oil and gas of the USSR
