Museum History
The museum was created in 1996 by the administration of the Belokalitvinsky district. In accordance with her decree, a building was provided to house museum collections, which is a monument of architecture of the 19th century. The building was built in 1886 at the expense of the Cossacks of the village of Ust-Belokalitvinskaya and it housed a two-year higher primary school. In the post-October period, it was city school No. 1. From 1996 to 1998, the building was renovated, then, on September 18, 1998, it was open to visitors. The opening was timed to celebrate the 295th anniversary of the city.
The basis of the museum fund was the collections collected at the military enlistment office in the Museum of Revolutionary, Military, and Labor Glory, the ethnographic collection of the Palace of Culture. V. Chkalov and the archaeological collection, which was transferred to the metallurgical plant. The following expositions are presented in the museum: “Archeology”, “Civil and Great Patriotic War”, “Cossack Room”, “Noble Living Room”, “History of OJSC“ BKMPO “”, “Nature of the Don Region”, “Objects of Orthodox Culture”, “Musical Salon ”,“ Antique Copper, Clay and Wooden Utensils ”,“ Decorative and Applied Art ”and the Art Gallery (opened in 2005), which contains more than 250 paintings by local painters [1] [2] . In 2007, the territory near the museum was fenced and an open-air exposition “Cossack Yard” was created.
Currently, the museum fund has about 7,000 exhibits.
In 2006, the museum won the “Responsible for the Future” competition, which was jointly held by ALCOA and the Sustainable Development Fund.
In 2008, the museum won a grant competition in the nomination "Museum Exposition Technologies", held by the V. Potanin Charitable Foundation "A Changing Museum in a Changing World." An exposition “Just life. Socialist province ”, which opened to visitors in September 2009 [3] . The author of the project L. N. Safonova with a group of winners of the competition in 2010 was sent for an internship in London [4] .
