He studied composition and organ playing with Thomas Laub . He worked as an organist in the Holmen Church in Copenhagen, then in St. Thomas Cathedral in Fredericksburg . The author of a number of vocal compositions, he worked with Karl Nielsen to harmonize Nielsen 's vocal works, which compiled the collection “Hymns and Sacred Songs” ( Dat. Salmer og Aandelige Sange ) [1] . Among the students of Helmut, in particular, Knud Eppesen and Pole Skierbek .
