After a major renovation in 2003, the airport’s capacity is 200 passengers per hour. The airport is located 5 km from the city.
From November 1, 2001 , Mariupol Airport was in long-term lease at OJSC MMK and was a structural division of Mariupol Metallurgical Plant OJSC. After the change of the owner of the Mariupol Metallurgical Plant, the management of the enterprise decided to terminate the lease agreement ahead of time. In December 2011, the airport became the property of the city, and in January 2012, PJSC Azovobschemash became the new tenant of the airport.
History
1967 - the beginning of the construction of the airport.
Until 1993, the Mariupol airport was part of the Donetsk United Aviation Squadron.
In the period from 2003 to 2005, OJSC Ilyich Iron and Steel Works conducted a large-scale reconstruction of the airport. The general contractor was Mariupol construction company OOO Step.
In 2004, two new An-140-100 aircraft were acquired. The airport received international status.
In 2004, 11 thousand passengers were transported, in 2006 - 18 thousand, and in 2007 - more than 20 thousand.
Since 2009, there are no regular flights from Mariupol Airport.
In February 2012, the airport was taken into long-term lease by PJSC Azovobschemash. Regular flights have not resumed.
