Biography
Born in 1585 [1] in Istanbul [2] in the family of the future Sultan Mehmed III . Who his mother was is not known for certain: for example, a number of historians call Selim Handan the Sultan the mother; however, Handan, who fell into the harem in the second half of 1583 [3] , became a concubine of the Sultan only in 1589 [4] .
In 1595, Sultan Murad III died, and Selim's father ascended the throne. Since shehzadeh was the eldest son of the Sultan, on January 16, 1595 he was declared heir to the throne [1] [4] . Selim died of scarlet fever on April 20, 1597 in Istanbul [5] . He was buried next to his great-grandfather, Sultan Selim II in the mosque Aya-Sofya .
