Biography
He first made his name in 2011 when he won the pole vault competition at the European Youth Olympic Festival and at the World Youth Championships .
In 2013, he set a national record for halls (5.62 m) and performed at the European Indoor Championships , where he could not overcome the qualification.
He won the gold of the European Youth Championship in 2015 with a score of 5.55 m. At the World Championships in Beijing , he set a new country record in qualification (5.70 m), but in the final he took a height 20 cm worse and remained in 13th place.
At the end of 2015, the national federation recognized Robert as the best athlete of the year [1] .
In 2016 at the European Championship in the best attempt he took a height of 5.50 m. Due to the strong wind, this result allowed him to be in third place. The fate of the medal was in the hands of the current world champion Renault Lavilleni , who began the competition with 5.75 m, when the rest of the participants had already finished their performances. The Frenchman could not take the initial height, so Robert Renner became the bronze medalist of the European Championship (and the first Slovenian medalist of the tournament since 2006 ) [2] .
At the 2016 Olympics, he could not overcome the qualification, showing the 22nd result.
Trained under the supervision of Milan Kranjec in the athletics club Kladivar from his native Celje [3] .
