Biography
Born in 1923 in Maglai in a poor peasant family. He graduated from elementary school in his native village, after which he moved to Sarajevo . He studied at a madrasah , lived in a boarding school. While studying at school, he became interested in advanced political ideas and gathered a group of like-minded people, for which he was arrested by the police. However, the police let him go without receiving evidence of his illegal activities.
After the surrender of Yugoslavia in the April War and the establishment of Ustash’s power, Suleiman remained in occupied Sarajevo , where he worked as a member of the Communist Youth Union of Yugoslavia . In February 1942, he received orders to leave Sarajevo and join the partisans with a group of friends from the boarding school. Since March 1, 1942 - a fighter of the 1st Montenegrin battalion of the 1st proletarian shock brigade . In July 1943 he was wounded. Member of the CPY since 1942.
In May 1942, Suleiman received a baptism of fire in Sinyaevin, where partisans fought against the Chetniks Pavel Dzhurishich for a month. He participated in the battles of the brigade for Durmitor , Konits , Kupres , Klyuch , Bosansko-Grakhovo , Egg , Yoshavka, Ivan Sedlo, in battles on the Neretva , Drin and Brodarevo. In the days of the battle at Sutjeske, as deputy political officer, he led the company on the offensive to protect the wounded at Celebich. As a political instructor, the company covered the retreat of the battalion on July 8, 1943 during the battle at Tsaparda and was seriously injured.
After recovering, Suleiman continued his service in the partisan parts of Vojvodina. He was a political instructor of the battalion, deputy brigade commander, and later headed the 3rd Voivodship brigade , which he fought under Srem, Maevitsa , Birac , Ozren , Trebava , Yahorina , Zelengora , Piva, Loznica , Cerus , Belgrade , Sremskaya Mitrovica , Barana do and Klagenfurt . He rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel of the JNA and the commander of the 5th Voivodship Brigade .
He died in November 1945 on the Osijek – Nasice highway, ambushed by krizhari . December 20, 1951 posthumously awarded the Order and the title of People's Hero of Yugoslavia.
