Bernard I ( French Bernard Ier d'Astarac ; b. After 1080, d. 1142 ) - Count of Astarak .
The youngest son is Sansha I. Inherited either to his father or elder brother Guillaume II.
OK. In 1137, he founded the Cistercian Abbey of Berdu with his son Sunsh.
In 1130, he restored the city of Simorra, which suffered from a fire. In the same year or so, he founded the Monastery of Bulor together with the Archbishop of Osh (Guillaume II d'Anduzill).
Bernard I is mentioned in the charter of May 1141, in which he allowed the monks of the Abbey Berd to graze cattle on their lands.
At the end of the same year, Bernard I transferred to his middle son Bernard (with the consent of both other sons) the lord Saint-Martin-du-Gault and all possessions in the dioceses of Bordeaux and Bazas. He probably died the same or next year. [1] .
The name of the first wife of Bernard I is not known. From her sons:
- Sansh II (d. 1168), Count of Astarak
- Bernard II, mentioned in 1141 and 1144, he inherited part of his father's possessions (probably without the title of count).
The second wife is Langebruna (d. After 1154). The historian Jean de Jorgen suggests that she was the sister of Boemon, Count de Pardiac. This assumption is based on the fact that the name of the son of Bernard I from Longebruna, Boemon, had never before been encountered in the family of counts of Astarak. Children:
- Boemon (1140–1183), Count of Astarak
- Savarik (mentioned 1186). It is possible that he was the son of Bernard II.
