Biography
Born in 1911 in one of the German colonies in the Saratov province. In the 1920s, during a famine in the Volga region, she moved to Baku with her parents. After the death of her parents, she was forced to work as a teenager to support her younger sisters. In 1941, during the deportation of the Germans, together with her husband, he was exiled to a special settlement in Kazakhstan in the village of Nikolaevka, Osakarovsky District. Since 1942, she worked as a cowgirl at state farm No. 4 (later - Voskhod state farm) of the Osakarovsky district. Was called up to the labor army. Until the end of the war, she worked at an oil refinery in the Komi ASSR. After returning to the Oskarovsky district, she worked as a milkmaid at the Voskhod state farm in the Osakarovsky district.
In 1955 she was awarded the title "Winner of Socialist Competition" and the best milkmaid of the Kazakh SSR, and in 1962 - the title "Drummer of Communist Labor."
She was the initiator of the link method of milking hert. Over the years of the seven-year plan (1959-1965) she received an average of 2515 kilograms of milk from each feed cow. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 22, 1966, for the successes achieved in the development of animal husbandry, the increase in the production and procurement of meat, milk, eggs, wool and other products, she was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal " Hammer and Sickle ."
Participated in the All-Union Exhibition of VDNH in Moscow.
She worked at a dairy farm until retiring in 1968. She lived in the village of Nikolaevka.

In the village of Osakarovka on the Alley of Heroes, a bust was installed in honor of Ekaterina Ortman.
