Duisburg 1929

The 26th Congress of the German Chess Union took place in 1929 in Duisburg . Only German chess players participated in the tournament. The victory was won by C. Auez, who was gradually nominated among the leaders of German chess. A big surprise was presented by P. Leonhardt. He, playing in his usual sharp-attacking manner, managed to conduct the competition fairly evenly. He consistently scored points and eventually took 2nd place. In the 3rd round, Leongardt won against G. Wagner a game that bypassed leading chess magazines (Black had a good attack; the game was important for the theory of the Cambridge Springs version of the queen's gambit ). The 3rd prize winner was F. Zemis. Not very successfully played in the tournament veteran J. Mises. The bronze medalist of the previous congress V. Goltshausen could not even come close to past success.
