Clay Constantinou ( born Clay Constantinou ; born September 4, 1951 , New York , New York , USA ) [1] - American attorney and diplomat , US Ambassador to Luxembourg ( 1994 - 1999 ) [2] , founding member ( 1997 ) and the first dean ( 1999 - 2005 ) . Member of the Foundation of the American-Greek Institute [3] and former President of the Cyprus Federation of America ( 1987 - 1991 ) [4] . Engaged in law practice and is an international consultant. Biography

Early Years and Education

Born September 4, 1951 in New York ( New York , USA ) in a Greek Cypriot family. After the death of his mother, when Clay was two years old, his father took his son to Cyprus , where he grew up and graduated from primary and secondary schools [8] .

He attended the (Cyprus).

In 1973 he graduated from with a bachelor of science degree in political science . He was introduced to the Sports Hall of Fame of this educational institution.

In 1981, he received a doctorate in law from .

In 1987 he graduated [7] .

Career

Participated in US political life.

He served as co-chair of the finance committee and presidential campaign delegate to Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis (1988), Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton (1992) and Massachusetts Senator John Kerry (2004). Initially, he raised funds for the campaign of the former Massachusetts senator Paul Tsongas , but later moved to the Clinton campaign, becoming the president of the electoral college in New Jersey [9] [10] .

In 1989, , Governor of New Jersey, was appointed a member of the Board of Commissioners of the administration responsible for maintaining the operation of the New Jersey Turnpike Highway . He was also a member of the Essex County Public Utilities Board of Directors.

In 1994-1999, he was the US Ambassador to Luxembourg. At this time, decisions were made to expand NATO and the European Union , as well as the economic and monetary union of the EU . In July-December 1997, during the period when Luxembourg presided over the EU Council , he led the American delegation and participated in negotiations with EU officials on trade and global cooperation. He insisted on the entry of Cyprus into the EU during a meeting of Clinton and European leaders in the White House .

In 1999-2005 - the first dean of the Whitehead School of Diplomacy, one of the founders of which he was. In 2001, the School was elected as the secretariat and project manager of the Dialogue among Civilizations under the auspices of the UN [5] .
