History
One of the oldest parks in the city located in its center is the Alexander Park. The park was laid out in 1895 according to the project of the teacher of the Imperial Nikitsky College N. M. Cheryachukin. In the next three years, about 500 trees were planted by the students, the central alley was broken and ennobled. Previously, a city cemetery was located on this territory, on which there was a family crypt-chapel of merchants Baranovs. In the first years of Soviet power, after the cemetery was brought in, a transformer substation was built in the crypt.
In 2012, the resting place of the townspeople received the name "Alexander Park". The name is given in honor of the founder of the city of Aleksandrovsk-Grushevsky (now the city of Mine) - Emperor Alexander II .
In the 30s of the XX century, new avenues were formed in the park, its southeastern part was cleared. During its existence, the park underwent reconstruction twice. In 1914, the Modern cinema was built, and in 1926, the summer theater. In memory of those who fell during the Great Patriotic War, Shakhty architects created the Alley of Heroes. The alley was opened in 1988 and was created at the expense of the residents of the city. A zoo corner is located in the recreation area.
Currently, funds have been allocated for the development of the park as part of the program for the reconstruction of cultural facilities of the city. The plans include the unification of the park with the Shakhtar stadium and the creation of a sports and park complex.
In 2015, in order to preserve valuable and rare plants, a specially protected natural area “English oak” with an area of 0.01 ha was created in the park [1] .
