Islay, Safie

Safie Isla (July 14, 1907 - January 14, 1998) is a Turkish singer , one of the most famous performers of Turkish classical music [3] [4] .

Biography

Born July 14, 1907 in Istanbul [5] . Safie's father, the father of Mysyrly Nijazizadeh-hafiz Abdullah-bei of Egypt died before her birth. Safie's mother died when she was three years old. After that, Safie Isla was given to a shelter located in Bebek . There she received primary education. Then she graduated from the teacher's school in Bursa . After graduating from the Lyceum, she worked as a teacher for a short time [6] .

She learned to play the piano. Her teacher was Mustafa Sinar, at the same time she began to sing in a casino.

She worked with Yesari Asim Arsoy, Hafiz Ahmet Irsoi, Selahattin Pynar, Sadettin Kaynak and Udi Nevres Bey. In 1932, Safie Isla performed in front of Atatürk and became one of his favorite singers. [6]

In 1950, she married Sheriff Muhiddin Targan . Safie Islay's songs were often broadcast on the radio, she recorded more than 500 records.

Safie Isla, Museyen Senar and Hamiet Jugeses are known in Turkey as Üç Dev Çınar.

Safie Isla died on January 14, 1998 in Istanbul. She was buried in the Zincirlikuyu cemetery [3] [4] .

The name of Safie Isla is the song contest for young performers [3] [4] .
