Biography
Born into a wealthy merchant family. Since childhood, fluent in Slovenian and German. After studying at the Ljubljana Lyceum, he studied medicine at the University of Vienna .
Received the degree of Doctor of Medicine. He worked as a professor of veterinary medicine and pathology in Ljubljana.
The author of a number of works in the field of veterinary medicine and human health, in particular about infectious diseases .
In 1843, he founded and edited the cultural and economic magazine Kmetijske in rokodilske Novice, which for a long time was the only Slovenian publication that became the focus of the Slovenian revival. It raised questions about public education, language processing. During the Spring of Peoples of 1848, he came up with the idea of uniting Slovenia into one national whole - Great Slovenia.
Slovenian folk breeder . Since 1875, Mr .. was chairman of the Slovenian Mother . He enjoyed great popularity and authority.
Conservative. Supporter of Austroslavism . In politics, he followed the example of the Czech national leader F. Palacki , who demanded autonomy for the Slavic peoples within the framework of a single Austrian empire.
In 1881, the Blaewis emperor of Austria, Franz Joseph I, was granted the nobility with the title Torstenic .
